As a supplement, it is purported to offer a number of health benefits, from enhancing physical performance to improving behavior in children with autism and attention deficit disorder. I highly doubt that, as people are stating, strength levels do not contribute too much. Whenever I use overloads I can see a significant damage increase. It may be, however, that your unboosted level won't affect damage and only levels that get boosted do (similar to how magic pre-EoC boosted 3% damage per level).
